Sheet Music
Here you can find the sheet music I’ve written (or made harmony for, in the case of the hymns), free to download as PDFs.
A Soldier’s Deathsong
Unlike the rest of the songs on this page so far, this is entirely my own composition, written to provide music for A Soldier’s Deathsong (a poem which can be found separately here). The words are in the music as well.
King Alfred’s War Song
Here’s one of my favorite hymns, and the second oldest on this page. The melody was transcribed by ear from Kemper Crabbe’s version here, as it was the only music I could find on Youtube. The words for the first verse are interpolated (with plentiful hyphenation); the second and third verses are on the second page.
Coventry Carol
Here’s my arrangement of the (slightly grim) traditional Christmas carol.
O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus
The melody is slightly altered from standard in this version. If you wish to revert the changes, first alter the syncopated triplets (measures 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, and 16) to a dotted-eighth-note and a sixteenth note (F and E flat respectively), and then replace the second triplet in measures 4, 8, and 16 with a quarter note on D.
He Who Would Valiant Be
I learned this classic hymn (originally found in Pilgrim’s Progress itself) with a tune that turned out to be different from the one in my hymnal (a Trinity Hymnal, for the curious). I recently sat down and wrote out the tune, adding my own harmony. Please enjoy this excellent work of John Bunyan, and remember that it comes from the hand of a man who suffered for years in the name of Christian doctrine.
