Censorship Produces Its Own Justification
If you want racism, suppress it.
The number of issues which the mainstream in modern politics refuses to acknowledge, except to ridicule. Politicians, leaders, all the apparatus of the conventional world, refuses to address these problems; they make them worse instead, and when you speak against the destruction, censorship and slander are your only lot. I’m sure you can think of a few like this; let’s think about consequences.
Here’s an issue: ethnic replacement. No respectable politician so much as considers (in public) that this issue is real. Why are you whining about the Moslems next door? The Hindu statue? Why do you get annoyed that English is starting to go extinct roundabout your neighborhood? All men are the same, liberalism asserts, except that the Westerner, tainted by Christianity, is inherently worse; politics, basically conditioned by liberalism, can therefore acknowledge no issue at all. Immigration is simply an economic issue, and a people have no right to their homeland, unless they have no great heritage in Christ. Say otherwise, and you’re a racist, an ethnonationalist, etc.
(Israel is a point of schizophrenia here: to support, because woke and liberal, or to hate, because Western and still touched by God even after two millennia of largely rejecting Him.)
Here’s an issue: the Christian duty to sanctify civil government. The church has only one policy here, and that is to avoid the fullness. You can be Radical Two Kingdoms; you can noise about a little political engagement being righteous. But if you so much as hint that you want more, that the gospel is not compromised but strengthened by complete adherence to the law of God in civil government, and you’re accused of making God’s kingdom a thing of the earth, as was the liberal orthodoxy in the early 1900s. A mirage of heresy is erected, and its builders will never hear that theonomists are anything but heretics. Respected leaders in respected conservative denominations will literally boast of having never read the works they condemn and vilify, as Bahnsen notes briefly in the introduction to his Theonomy in Christian Ethics.
If you’ve ever used a pressure cooker, you know what this course will end in, what it produces. With these issues and many others, the mainstream has determined to censor the problem out of existence; the result is an increasing number of people who know they have an issue in hand but are refused any ability to deal with it. They’re given ever more foreigners on their streets, and they are called racists for disliking the takeover. The result?
The result is a swing past virtue to the extreme. Worry over foreigners has failed, they see; nobody responds to that. The problem must be larger and it must be deeper. The problem must be the foreigners in concept, he might think, or he hears somebody, another suppressed voice, ranting about the evils of the Jews. Desperation fuels acceptance or enthusiasm, and the horror which the censor accused his foe of has now been birthed from that censorship.
Except, this isn’t really a bad result for the mainstream, not at first. Eventually, it can build into an overturning; eventually, dissatisfaction with utopian reduction of His kingdom to this earth will flip into desperate divorce from this earth (Radical Two Kingdoms). But, for a long time, the evils produced by pressuring every reasonable objection into silence are actually an asset to the censors. They now have real Nazis to point to, to justify the suppression; they now have an excellent reason to keep up their own refusal to deal with the issues. The censor and his foe have a mutually beneficial existence, each justifying the other’s importance to his cohort.
If you really want to deal with the racists, the anti-Semites, the men who deny His image, then the best course is to defuse them. Do not censor; do not suppress. It’ll squish some, but it will create and empower many more. Instead, invite them out. Talk to them. Do it competently, of course, but talk to them. Deal with and acknowledge the truths they have seized upon, which are the strength their lies persist by. Deal with the problems in your own house, openly and honestly; address the issues. The same goes for those who worry about ‘my nation is God’s actual, literal kingdom’ and similar perversions; the only real solution is to stop ping-ponging from heresy to heresy, to actually find the right answer, deal with the real problems, and stay there.
God bless.
